Katie. This name was given by American-Jewish Family when i was staying in US for a year. That time was two name given to me to chose, 'Katie' or 'Courtney'. For myself prefer Courtney as it's sound more unusual. I can't remember why i chose Katie at the end
Katie is a nickname for Katherine. Katherine could be derived from Greek meaning "each of the two"; or it could be derived from the name of the goddess HECATE; or it could be related to Greek αικια (aikia) "torture"; or it could be from a Coptic name meaning "my consecration of your name". In the early Christian era it became associated with Greek "pure" and the Latin spelling was changed from Katerina to Katharina to reflect this.
I met a Poland girl, her name is Kate. When we used to hang out, our friend always confused me-Katie and Kate. The Poland girl told us that her name is Kasha. However her family can't really pronounce her name. So her called herself Kate instead. And for me, i told them can call me Chyng as that is my name. Also due to my family fail to pronounce my name, so they given me English name -Katie.
